Way to Learn

According to the group's or participant's interests, I incorporate information about the theme for the project, so that we not only have fun and improve our well-being by being creative and making something with our hands, we also learn something new.

Although I offer some instructions and a sequence of steps as guidelines, there will be opportunities for self-expression and creativity. Students' results can look different from each other.

There is a recommended way but no wrong or right way. Mistakes or unwanted results can serve as learning points. Students can explore processes and ideas and learn from each other.

My goal for the sessions is to offer students opportunities to improve their skills using different materials and techniques, but most importantly for them to have a meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable experience with peers. Social interactions and self-expression are a valuable part of the process.

The Process

Notice. Imagine. Create. Explore. Have fun!

  • Notice. What materials are available? What are the teacher's guidelines for this project.
  • Imagine. What do the images, objects, and samples available inspire you to make? What can you make with the materials available and how can you use them safely and caringly?
  • Create. Use the materials to create what you imagined
  • Explore. What can you do, add, change, or not change? This involves critical thinking and creativity.
  • Have fun! Don't be attached to the result. Enjoy using your imagination and the sensorial experience of manipulating materials. The more you engage with the materials, the more you will become skilled at using them. Remember, there are no mistakes in art!
